The Mules Booster Club has named Zoë Freeman and Jack Ernest of Poplar Bluff High School the January Athletes of the Month, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Jack, a senior wrestler, had a seasonal record of 26-10, as of this nomination last week. He placed second at the Bolivar Tournament and third in Union, and was additionally named SEMO All-Conference wrestler.

“Jack is a true example of commitment,” said Kelton Thompson, his coach. “Jack did not start wrestling until he was a freshman and has made huge strides each year. He is a great example for his teammates on how it is critical to trust and follow the process of doing things the right way.”

Zoë, a junior wrestler, had a record of 25-0 for the season, exceeding 100 career wins, with a No. 2 rank in the 190-pound weight class, as of this nomination. Having qualified for state twice and being named SEMO Conference champion three times, Zoë was named the Bolivar, Union, Bring the Hammer and Steve Johnston Tournament champion.

“Zoë is putting together a very impressive season,” Thompson said. “She has been very consistent throughout her career in her preparation. She has been a trailblazer for girls wrestling. Zoë is coachable and works to improve her skills.”
