District communication efforts earn state honors
Posted on 11/07/2017

Poplar Bluff Schools won two statewide awards on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 2-3, during the fall conference of the Missouri School Public Relations Association in St. Charles.

The recently launched district website tied for first place and Mule Prints magazine received an award of excellence out of over 70 entries in nine categories submitted from schools across the state in the 2017 MOSPRA Communications Awards program.

“The MOSPRA Communications Awards program not only recognizes exemplary school public relations programs, but also provides valuable feedback from public relations professionals to help our members continue to improve their work,” stated Paul Tandy, MOSPRA president. “Congratulations to this year’s honorees on this well-deserved recognition.”

Mule Prints is an annual collaboration between the district and the Daily American Republic that is distributed in the newspaper as well as to businesses and organizations throughout the community over the summer. The third installment of the publication received 95 out of 100 points from two PR professionals, both inside and outside of the public education arena, who were tasked with measuring against industry standards.

“Clearly an important newsletter for the Poplar Bluff community,” one comment read on the evaluation. “Photography is top notch. Good composition; very flattering.”

The website, www.poplarbluffschools.net, tied for first place with a district in Jefferson County, scoring 93 points respectively. Poplar Bluff launched its responsive website via SchoolMessenger on New Year’s Day, followed by a mobile app in March, which can be downloaded for free in Apple iOS and Android stores by simply searching for the district name.

“The site looks sharp and is very easy to use,” stated one of the judges. “It loads quickly, and works well on mobile devices.”

Named an exemplary chapter under the national parent organization this year, MOSPRA is composed primarily of school public relations professionals, dedicated to providing citizens with a better understanding of the objectives, accomplishments and needs of the schools within its communities.

The Poplar Bluff School District has maintained membership with the nonprofit organization since its PR operation was established six years ago. The district previously received an award of merit in the writing category of the 2013 MOSPRA Communications Awards program.
